My flexibility, tested in many more ways than just my yoga mat!
Being a yoga teacher – I am pretty flexible – but the past seven days has certainly seen my flexibility tested in many more ways than just on my yoga mat!
I am now seven days into Social Distancing. It’s been an intense week (as I’m sure it has for all of us and for some, far more than others). And I have had to completely change my entire business model overnight.
I woke up last Thursday morning and decided I would immediately stop all my in-person yoga classes. (Halls were directed to close the forthcoming Monday but I thought, why would I continue for a few days when clearly we should all be minimising contact asap).
So! Within 10 hours, I had researched online platforms, decided on Zoom, learnt how to use and host it, informed all my students and taken all my classes online – ready for our first class that evening.
Since then I have had a full week of classes and introduced a 🧡new free class on Tuesday evenings 🧡to allow those financially strapped to continue access to a space of calm and exercise. It has also encouraged those that have been putting off starting yoga, to 'give yoga a go' which is wonderful to see.
It’s been a great success
My existing students have transitioned across and love that they are still part of a group, a community where they can keep in touch, encourage one another and keep learning together and keep their practice up. They have all been very grateful to be able to continue - especially at this time when we all need to keep our minds calm and bodies healthy.
I am incredibly proud of being able to keep my classes going when they are needed more than ever. My free beginners class is also encouraging those to attend a class they wouldn’t have done so previously and to discover the many benefits of yoga.
