I'm a yoga teacher - but am I right for you?

With so many teachers and different 'styles' of yoga to choose from, finding the right one can be confusing, even overwhelming.

Hello, I’m Vicki Baumann, a yoga teacher. Let me introduce my style of yoga in a little more detail so you can decide if I’m the teacher you are looking for.

🔸 I teach what is called Vinyasa Yoga – which basically means Flow Yoga.

🔸 Flow yoga is a dynamic style of yoga that connects breath and movement in a flowing sequence of poses. The good thing is you don’t have to memorise the flow as I talk you through each pose.

🔸 I don’t teach ‘Hot Yoga’ – but you will get hot! The flow will warm you up and get you sweating!

🔸 There are many benefits of Vinyasa yoga, including stronger muscles, better flexibility and mobility and reduced stress levels. It also boosts your immunity, gives you more energy and increases your heart rate.

🔸 I have been practising Vinyasa yoga for over 30 years and teaching it since 2017. I can honestly say it has changed my life.

Firstly, it's never too late to start

If you’re worried that you’ve left it too late to start doing yoga, you’ve come to the right place. Being in my third flush of youth – rocking my 60s – I’m a living embodiment of what’s possible with yoga, whatever your age. I know how it feels to work through aches, pains and injuries.

In fact, I come to the yoga mat with my own injuries, having had major surgery on my left foot which mean I had to learn to walk again unaided. So, I understand how difficult it is to come back from injury and how yoga practice needs to be adapted to accommodate weaknesses.

So, what makes me tick?

If I were an animal, I’d be a dog, specifically a Terrier.

Most of all I love leading my students and understand what it's like

to be a ‘puppy’ - learning, enthusiastic and inquisitive

Yoga teacher Vicki Baumann of Yogawithvickib names as one of the f:Entrepreneur #ialso100 for 2020.

My classes are on Zoom and what I really love is providing a space where everyone can explore what they are truly capable of. I don’t just teach, but guide and help you individually to get the poses exactly right, so you gain the maximum benefits without danger of injury. We are all much stronger and able to become far more flexible than we ever think at the start.

And, let’s not forget, yoga is not just about fancy poses. It is about providing a space where we can sit; focus on our breath; concentrate and learn to stop all the ‘chatter’ that goes on in our minds.

So, am I right for you as a yoga teacher?

Well, let me answer a few questions I frequently get asked.

“I’m far too inflexible – could I really do yoga?”

Most of my students have started with this thought in their minds. You will find after a few classes that your flexibility improves and, under my guidance, you can achieve so much more than you thought possible.

“I’m afraid to start a class in case I hold everyone else back, not knowing what to do”

This is why I run my beginners’ courses and beginners’ class – so you are in similar company, and all learn together. Or I can teach 1-2-1 to help get you up to speed so you are more confident about joining a class.

“If I’m a complete beginner, are your classes suitable?”

I run a series of beginners’ courses throughout the year. By the end you will know the two common ‘flows’ that are taught in my classes and understand the basic poses. From there you can join my other classes, varying from a gentle evening stretch, to a beginners’-continuation class or more challenging classes where balances such as headstand are also taught. But that’s perhaps not for everyone!

“I’m recovering from injury – do you provide 1-2-1 classes?”

If your priority is recovering from an injury or strengthening a particularly weak area, I can provide private 1-2-1 classes, either on Zoom or in-person at my Dorset home yoga studio,  where I can work out a bespoke programme for you.

“What if I’m too busy to do yoga in the evenings and at weekends?”

This is why I also run my sunrise yoga class 6.30-7.30am. It’s a beautiful way to start the day and really does set you up for the week ahead.

“Can we have a class in our office?”

Yes. I can provide that. I have various packages that can be adapted to suit individual businesses that wish to provide yoga classes as part of their wellness package.

Yoga Retreats

I also run ladies yoga and wellness retreats that I co-host with the fabulous Jo Tocher, an incredibly well experienced holistic wellness expert. We have been running our popular Go With The Flow retreats in Kalkan, Turkey since 2018 and expanding into other countries. We love providing a beautiful space for women to come together and give themselves some quality time to prioritise their wellness.

Past retreat participants have told me it was the first time they’d ever gifted themselves some time just for themselves, with family, partners or work always taking priority.

Over the years we have had lots of ladies returning – many rebooking before they leave! However stressed they feel on arrival, however ‘guilty’ about taking time out just for themselves, by the end of the retreat they feel revived after an incredible stint full of yoga, meditation and wellness. They leave feeling truly supported, nourished by delicious food and the most relaxed they have ever been.
